Mettam’s Libs leadership in crisis after Burke contact
Revelations two Liberal frontbenchers had contact with notorious political fixer Brian Burke have plunged Libby Mettam’s leadership into crisis, with her authority over her colleagues now in serious doubt.
Deputy Leader Steve Thomas was forced to fall on his sword after admitting to having used Mr Burke to set up a meeting with prominent Perth businessman John Poynton.
Shortly after announcing that development and declaring a “line in the sand” over her party’s ties to Mr Burke, The West Australian revealed Upper House Tjorn Sibma wrote an email stating the former premier was welcome to contact him to discuss “electoral, legislative or policy” matters.
