The great Aussie icon, the old hills hoist!
These hills hoists have been slowly disappearing from backyards in favour of the new foldable and retractable style clotheslines.
But I still like the old hoist not just because they can last years, but because you can service and repair them.
I’ve repaired and maintained a few over the years. Sometimes they need new wire strung. But most of the time the issues are to do with not being able to wind it up or down. In those cases I’ve either had to replace the pole, or pull it apart and given it a good clean and re-grease.
