The performances are visually stunning with a distinct music style. Normally, the storylines are based on Chinese history or literature. Learn the Culture of Beijing Opera Facial Makeup
The origin of facial makeup used in Beijing Opera can be traced back to more than 1,400 years ago, when leading actors used to wear masks. As the operatic arts developed, performers gradually took off their masks and painted colorful patterns on their faces. This way, people could better see their facial expressions.
There are four general styles of face painting that represent four essential types of characters in a typical Beijing Opera: male, female, a "painted face," and a clown. Originally, only three colors were used: red, white, and black. Later, other colors were gradually incorporated. Each is with its own symbolic meaning. During our makeup program, you will be turned into a female character since the makeup and hair design for an actress is the most complicated!

On this Chinese cultural theme customized trip, we take our guests to experience a full 2-hour makeup session of real actors and actresses in Beijing Operas. The makeup session is staffed by one of most esteemed professional Beijing opera makeup artists in the country. Our guests will get to try on the different face paint, intricate hair pieces and silk strands. After completing the makeup, you will put on the traditional clothing to get the full look! Take advantage of this set up to capture unique photos of this memorable experience.
