  1. This young lady has achieved what she set out to do and I for one thought that was to be the youngest person to sail around the world single handed, without physical assistance and when she finally comes home on Saturday that is whats she’s done. Just like she said. To those that think she hasn’t done enough, hasn’t shown bravery and determination, isn’t the appitamy of a young Australian we should all be proud of then I feel sooo sorry for your efforts to live life to the best of your ability. Jessica deserves every accolade proud Australians can give her. She is an inspiration to all of us. Hope she make heaps of money and lives happily everafter. I wish I had been this brave in my younger days.

  2. and adam while you are going out to lunch and slothing around, may you be blessed with a dream ‘of doing something big and worthwhile in your life’… Amen !!

  3. Banana bender – you have it sooo wrong. If Jess was but a delivery agent, Im sure there would have been an easier way i.e. do an internet promotion. This young lass is an absolute star. Look at our other athletes – they go out and sprint for 5 mins and do a few hrs a day training. Once committed to ocean sailing you are living it 24/7 – the pressure this has physically and mentally, not to mention all of the associated tasks i.e. running repairs, constantly tweaking point of sail, engine repairs, weather map reading and planning, etc etc – it is an absolute amazing feat.

I am not from Australia, but find the ozzies have such a backward ‘tall poppy sydnryme’ mentality – if someone is great you try to chop them down. This is done in order to make the average joe blow look great. Its extinguishing someone elses candle so yours looks brighter. To all the overweight, lazy, non focussed people who have never achieved anything amazing in their life, I would suggest you keep quiet, and let those who are ‘busy accomplishing great things’ go about their business, and be rewarded accordingly, as they, and they alone have earned the right to bask in the glory !

  4. Adam, I would say that you are already “out to lunch” to call this a farce. Maybe sailing a floating yellow duckie around you bathtub, as you take a bath, is more of an accomplishment in your mind.

  5. people: don forget this is a fully sponsored marketing exercise. The Girl is just the delivery agent no different to a sport star. Sure she has endured and suffered and made a monumental effort, no taking that away from her. But remember, many people do this same trip with out corporate backers who are in it for the payoff alone and nought else. TEN/ONE/Canwest are included. Look past the trees to see the forest.

  6. Well done Jessica, she’s got to have recognition for sailing solo around the world and at 16 years of age, very brave.

On her welcome there will be plenty Australian flags proudly flying. Very proud day for Australia.

  7. Well done Jesscia! It’s good to hear that she’s coming home.

So I expect programming wise on TEN Saturdays Video Hits and Out Of The Blue will be dropped. As for Sunday Simpsons will be out on that night. Hopefully the special will run only for half an hour or else Merlin fans will be upset.

  8. I would have not have encourage to go in the first place but she has gone and done it and hearty congratulations to her; She has crossed the equator twice and in my book that is sufficent for her own record. rejoice with her for a short while she is a champion; it will not make up the anguish that she would have experienced with her knock-downs and being hove-to in trecherous conditions especially when there is no mum. Madam I salute you

  9. She’s a good kid and deserves to be acknowledged for her achievement regardless !

I’ll be down the harbour waving a flag, just a shame it has that other flag stuck in the corner of it…….

  10. I say good on Jessica but what I don’t get the whole thing about not breaking a record. I mean she’s still the youngest person to do a trip like this so in my book it doesn’t matter she didn’t cover enough distance, it’s not like she just sailed around the pole and come home.

So how long before the 60 Minutes story?

I’m hoping they have some deal with TEN for a special before 7 or 9 get there hands on the story.
