[taxonomy:binomial=Melomys cervinipes]
[taxonomy:family=Muridae]
The glimpse of a tiny bit of tail with its hint of characteristic tesselation, confirmed the rodent as a Melomys and not a Bush Rat. It is unique to the eastern coastal region of Queensland and northern New South Wales. It is nocturnal, partly arboreal and inhabits rainforest, moist lantana, bracken and creek verges.
