FEATURESDelicate stems with five-segmented leaves will weave through wire and other plants gripping with its leaf stems (petioles). Unusual-shaped purple, red and yellow flowers in winter. Dies back over summer.
USESTo brighten a dull corner in winter or screen a bare fence or deciduous shrub.
BEST CLIMATE/POSITIONPrefers a warm, sheltered spot in full sun or part shade, with wet winters and dry summers i.e. Mediterranean climate.
PREFERRED SOILBest in well-drained soil; needs to be dry over summer.
PROPAGATIONFrom seed or tubers.
POTENTIAL PROBLEMSLift tubers from ground or grow in a pot in areas with high summer rainfall.
