New food pyramid released for healthy eating

Nutrition Australia has released a new food pyramid, taking out sugars altogether and reducing the amount of bread and grains we should be eating.

The pyramid, which has been updated a number of times since it was first presented in the 1980s, is in response to new dietary guidelines released last year. Instead of sugars being at the top of the pyramid, there is now a recommendation to the side of the graphic that recommends that salt and sugar be limited.

Healthy fats remain at the top, with an image of olive oil. Breads and pastas that used to be at the bottom of the pyramid with vegetables and fruit are now in a higher tier.

Nutritionist Catherine Saxelby joins Michael Williams in the studio to talk about the new look pyramid and how it reflects our changing diets and lifestyles.
