Cadel Evans on being a hero to today's top Australian cyclists

Cadel Evans says he now admires cycling as a fan, more than anything else.

So he was surprised and delighted when he learnt, after watching Australian Jai Hindley became the first Australian to win the Giro d'Italia in 2022, that 11 years earlier Jai went with his parents to watch the Tour de France in 2011.

"And he saw me from the roadside. That's also the beauty of cycling, because you're there, you're so close to it," he says. "To think I was a part of that was very special personally."
