Evans shrugs off injury rumours
Tour de France runner-up Cadel Evans has dismissed speculation that a knee injury could threaten his Olympic Games campaign.
Cycling Australia says Evans stumbled on a wet floor at a post-Tour dinner in France, but he will definitely compete in Beijing.
A caller to a Melbourne radio station yesterday suggested that the 31-year-old would not make the trip to the Chinese capital.
"It is a rumour, that's all it is," a surprised Evans said in a Cycling Australia statement.
"I am planning to go home to Italy later today and take my dog Molly for a walk and then go for a ride on my bike."
Evans admits he is still sore from his crash early in the Tour de France but he plans to race in a criterium Belgium before joining his Australian team-mates at a training camp in Italy this week.
He said the Tour is good preparation for Beijing.
"I think riders who haven't done the Tour probably won't be going as well as we who have," said Evans, who last year won the time trial at the Goodluck Beijing road cycling test event less than two weeks after riding in the Tour.
