Highlight of My Day

When Did Kristen Stewart Get These Funky Orange Highlights?

And how soon can I get the same ones?

You know what I love about Kristen Stewart? Well, a lot, actually, but when it comes to beauty, specifically, she is genuinely unpredictable. She's shown us that she's more than happy to experiment with hairstyles and hair colors, but then she'll stick to something for a surprisingly long time — a true challenge for a hair chameleon like herself. She spent nearly all of 2021 and 2022 as a blonde, and before 2023 rolled around, she went back to brunette and has stayed that way for more than a year. And just went I thought she'd keep growing out her mullet with a solid, dark-chocolate shade, she switched things up.

Stewart visited Manchester, England on Thursday, December 7, to attend the Chanel Metiers D'Art Show, where the guest list was jam-packed with chic celebrities: Tilda Swinton, Lucy Boynton, Sofia Coppola, and more. But it was Stewart that arrived with a noticeably new look.

Her short hair has grown out significantly; it's still got a mullet silhouette, as made apparent in photos posted to Instagram by her go-to hairstylist, Adir Abergel, but it's long enough in back to pin up into an elegant updo. And since the last Chanel event she attended in November, she has spiced up her dark brown color — literally. She's now sporting a spicy shade of chunky orange highlights.

"We wanted to mimic the cities’ historical layers in her hair," Abergel tells Allure of the inspiration behind the high-contrast color update. "Manchester is the birthplace of industrialization and grit and Joy Division, and the rust orange overlapping the ribbons of darkness just felt literal and symbolic.”

Thumbs up, indeed, Kristen.

We love that it's not a huge change, but it still reads like one — the perfect option for someone who may be bored with their current color but doesn't want to go through a high-maintenance overhaul. (In other words: me.)
