A new REI Co-op location is coming to metro Phoenix. Here's where and when

REI Co-op is planning to open 10 new stores in 2024, including one in Arizona.

The newest REI in metro Phoenix will offer apparel, gear and expertise for camping, cycling, running, fitness, hiking and climbing. The store will have certified mechanics to tune, repair and enhance cycling equipment in a full-service bike shop.

The new store will be approximately 24,000 square feet. It will offer curbside pickup, in-store pickup and online ordering.

What does REI stand for?

REI stands for Recreational Equipment Inc. The company is an American retail and outdoor recreation services corporation.

Where will the new Phoenix REI be located?

The new REI will take over formerly occupied retail spaces at Arrowhead Promenade in Glendale. The address is 6040 W. Behrend Drive, Glendale.

REI Arizona locations

Arizona currently has six REI locations:

  • REI Co-op Adventure Center Arizona, 17465 N. 93rd St., Scottsdale.
  • REI Chandler, 870 N. 54th St.
  • REI Paradise Valley, 12634 N. Paradise Village Parkway W., Phoenix.
  • REI Prescott, 1761 E. State Route 69.
  • REI Tucson, 160 W. Wetmore Road.
  • REI Flagstaff, 323 S. Windsor Lane.

Is REI the same as REI Co-op?

There is no difference between REI Co-op and REI. The company uses the name interchangeably.

All REI stores are member-owned co-operatives. This means they have no shareholders. According to their website every time you make a purchase with REI, “you are choosing to steward the outdoors, support sustainable business and help the fight for life outside.”
