Interesting, Unusual or just downright weird bicycles...

Postby hartleymartin » Fri Sep 25, 2009 7:19 pm

I've been trawling the net and some weird and wonderful stuff has been turning up. Please post up pictures of other interesting, unusual or just downright weird bicycles:

I want one. It's perfect introduction to recumbent cycling for my other half. I am willing to put up with the saddle for that experience.

I guess that is one way of riding home from the supermarket after some mongrel has pinched your front wheel.

Mmm I wonder if there is a market for carbon fibre thongs with cleats.

Wouldn't it! I find it tough enough steering the trolley in an actual supermarket, what with the wheels that don't turn properly.. and there's always one that's gummed up with some identifiable goo!

You know, if you could find a way to mount cranks on the new Sturmey-Archer S3X hub, you could actually get a geared unicycle! I have also seen someone do an adaptation of a unicycle into a (rather small) penny-farthing somewhere.

The one wheel contraption withthe epicyclic drive is not really very new. In Italy I understand that monocycle is what I ride but in Oz it is generically referred to as a monocycle.

btw I saw a penny farthing in a museum in Florence that had something like a 70" wheel! It achieved this with linkage rods extending down to what would normally be the pedals so you didn't need a 70 inseam. Zero rake and trail so even after mounting it, no mean feat itself, it would be a devil to ride.

The more reasonable variant on this wasthe Kangaroo Dwarf Safety

Geared chain drive to the big front wheel, keeping it smaller than the ~60" of a regular Penny Farthing, but still achieving the higher gear. Safer to ride and mount/dismount.
