1989 Yamaha Super Tenere XTZ750

On my way out to San Antonio, I spent a couple of hours (not nearly enough time) meeting the team at Cycle Refinery – I’ve got some photos and a video to put together for you when I get back home. But the short story is, I love what they’re doing, and they’ve got some lovely JDM imports that are worth taking a closer looking at! Here’s one – a ’89 Super Tenere!

What I like about the older Teneres is just how rare they are – obviously nowadays you can walk into your Yamaha dealer and get a new Super Tenere (or an African Twin across the street at your Honda dealership. But both weren’t available in the US when this bike was new. Grey market imports of the early Africa Twins are relatively common, but I rarely see the Super Ten.

The 750 was built between 1989 and 1994 and it was quite popular in Europe. The parallel twin motor features 5-valve heads and produces 69 horsepower / 49 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to a 6.9 gallon tank and comfortable riding position, the Super Tenere was a great option for solo touring and light duty dirt. For more on the Super Tenere, check out this review/comparo between the AT and S10 on Visor Down.

This example shows 8,848 miles on the odometer (so it was presumably imported from somewhere outside of Japan) and it’s offered with a clean Texas license. Find this Super Tenere for sale in Austin, Texas here at Cycle Refinery for $6,695 – price does not include TT&L.
