40 Years of Love
2018 marks four decades since the first Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, and from Sunday until September Taylor Square will be transformed by a big, bright, proud artwork to celebrate.
The nine-metre inflatable installation, 40 Years of Love, was designed by Matthew Aberline and Maurice Goldberg of Sydney’s Goldberg Aberline Studio. The duo are known for their immersive and colourful practice which has previously featured in Sydney’s annual Vivid Light Festival.
The 360-degree work will be composed of images representing the history of the Australian LGBTQI community. The work will also include references to Indigenous members of the community, as well as the trailblazing 78ers behind the first Mardi Gras.
See the 40 Years of Love daily between 8am and 11pm from Sunday June 24 to Saturday September 1.
