See costumes, inflatable installations, fashion, cartoons, artworks and more that celebrate the LGBTQI+ community, from pioneering Sydney artists, designers and creatives.

World Pride might be over, but the Powerhouse Museum is celebrating LGBTQI+ creativity and excellence all year round with Absolutely Queer.

Pieces by artists, designers, makers and performers from Sydney’s diverse creative community are on show until the end of the year, with art that explores powerful themes and shines a light on issues facing LGBTQI+ people today.

There are large-scale inflatable installations by Matthew Aberline and Maurice Goldberg of The Beautiful and Useful Studio; intersectional work by Kamilaroi/Gamilaraay artist Dennis Golding; conceptual demi-couture fashion by Katie-Louise and Timothy Nicol-Ford of Nicol & Ford; pop art from jewellery label Doodad and Fandango; spectacular Mardi Gras costumes by award-winning designer Renè Rivas; and more.

Other creatives and artists with new work on display include video game developers and animators Scott Ford and Peter Foley of Fuzzy Ghost; multi-disciplinary artist Justin Shoulder; social justice activist and cartoonist Norrie; and drag king Sexy Galexy. Seminal Mardi Gras and Sleaze Ball costumes from the Powerhouse collection are also being exhibited.

Entry to Absolutely Queer is free.
