Isuzu Ute Australia is gearing up to revolutionize its MU-X SUV lineup in 2024 with the introduction of a smaller, more fuel-efficient 1.9-litre turbo-diesel engine. This move marks a significant shift in the Australian automotive market, offering consumers a blend of efficiency and performance.

Currently powering the entry-level D-Max SX in 4×2 and 4×4 configurations, the 1.9-litre RZ4E-TC engine will now find its way into the MU-X range. The addition is set to complement the existing 3.0-litre engine, providing a versatile choice for consumers.

While specifics on model availability and precise launch dates are still under wraps, Isuzu Ute Australia has confirmed the upcoming change.

In the D-Max, this engine delivers 110kW of power and 350Nm of torque, slightly lower than its 3.0-litre counterpart but with a notable improvement in fuel efficiency. It is estimated that the 1.9-litre engine will consume between 6.7 and 7.2 litres per 100km, making it one of the most economical options in its segment.

The towing capacity is also impressive, with the manual transmission capable of handling 2800kg and the automatic version up to 3000kg. This positions the 1.9-litre MU-X as a strong contender for those looking for a capable and efficient SUV.

The introduction of this engine could potentially bring down the entry price of the MU-X, currently starting at $48,900. If Isuzu Ute Australia follows the pricing strategy seen with the D-Max, consumers might see a more accessible starting price point for the MU-X range.

With this strategic move, the Isuzu MU-X is set to offer Australian families and adventurers an SUV that's not only robust and reliable but also more economical and environmentally considerate. Further details on the rollout and specific model variants are eagerly anticipated in the coming year.
