This rare mammal is a species of marsupial native to forests of the island of New Guinea, and are also known as dusky wallabies. They are marsupials, which means they carry their young in a pouch. Other marsupials include kangaroos, wombats, koalas and possums.
They have large ears to listen for predators, strong hind legs and a short thick tail for balance.
They are solitary animals coming together to mate, breeding throughout the year. A single baby is born after a month-ling gestation period and, despite being blind and helpless, it crawls up into it mother’s pouch where out teats provide its nutrition. It will continue to grow inside that pouch for 6 months.
