SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - An employee at the Akron Zoo is currently recovering at home, after being bitten by one on the zoo’s Komodo dragons earlier this month, according to a news release from the Akron Zoo.

The incident happened on March 3 in the Komodo Kingdom.

A second Komodo dragon who did not bite the employee was also injured and is in stable condition, according to a zoo official.

An Akron zoo official added they are reviewing how the incident happened and they are working with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

OSHA told 19 News they have investigated the incident, as well as the zoo’s procedures, training program and personal protective equipment requirements, finding no issues with Akron Zoo’s protocol.

“We will update as more information is available, consistent with privacy requirements and federal law. We also want to honor our employee’s privacy, so we are providing no other details at this time,” said a spokesperson with the Akron Zoo.
