The St. Louis Police Department is conducting an internal investigation into an officer who allegedly made racist, Islamophobic and antisemitic tweets. 

Tweets attributed to St. Louis Metropolitan Police Officer Bartney Coats also included several photos of him at the 2014 Ferguson protests sporting embattled officer's Darren Wilson's name tag. 

Wilson was the officer who fatally gunned down 18-year-old Michael Brown in August 2014, sparking fierce protest across the country. The white police officer was not charged for the shooting.

In the pictures, Coats can be seen wearing Wilson's name tag as he stands in front of the St. Louis City Hall building. Earlier photos on the account show Coats in hunting gear.

Several of the officer's Facebook post were included in the Plain View Project, a June project that showcased biased social media posts made by police in the country.

'Our department is aware of the posts and an internal investigation is being conducted,' she added.

On social media, calls were made to have the officer fired - including those made by Anonymous Police Watch account @CopWatchSTL. The account had been instrumental in sharing details from Coats' public Twitter and exposed the officer in 2014 for wearing Wilson's name tag.  

The account told DailyMail.com that the officer sent him a link for the Tennessee vs Garner case in an attempt to make a threat by offering that police could legally shoot anyone by saying they fear for their life. 

The account sent screenshots of their interaction with Coats, with the officer allegedly telling the account to 'be on your best behavior.'

The Ethical Society of Police, an organization founded by black officers in St. Louis in 1972, called Coats 'racist' and demanded that he be fired from the force.  

In 2014, the St. Louis Post Dispatch reported that the police department had plans to penalize Coats for wearing Wilson's name tag.
