Lleyton and Bec Hewitt reflect on their love story - as the star couple prepare to celebrate 17 years of marriage

Bec and Lleyton Hewitt have one of the strongest marriages in Australian showbiz.

And the couple's love story was revisited via Nine Honey on Sunday.

The couple first met on the tennis court for a charity game at the Starlight Cup back in 1999 - but didn't find romance until years later.

'I never followed any sport whatsoever,' Bec revealed in an old TV interview shared to Tik-Tok recently.

'I'd only met him back when we played the Starlight Cup, so I'd only known him as the nice young guy that he was back then.'

Former Home and Away star Bec was dating co-star Beau Brady. Lleyton was dating Belgian tennis star, Kim Clijsters.

The pair didn't see each other for a few years later but Bec sent him a text message to congratulate him on winning Wimbledon.

She sent another one when he won the US Open.

A few years later, the pair met up with Lleyton working on a TV project.

'We decided to catch up [in 2005] and it went from there. And from the first time we saw each other [at that time], I think we saw each other every day,' Bec said previously told Stellar magazine.

The couple were engaged during a whirlwind romance that lasted six weeks.

'By the time of the Aussie Open we both knew we wanted to spend our lives together, and look at us now!' Bec previously told Stellar.

In July 2005, the pair married at the Sydney Opera House and enjoyed a lavish wedding reception at Taronga Zoo.

The couple now share three children: Mia, 15, and Ava, 11, and son Cruz, 12.

Following their nuptials, they relocated with their children to the island of Nassau in the Bahamas after purchasing a $3.8million villa in the Old Fort Bay estate.

In 2016, the Hewitts left the Bahamas and returned to Melbourne, where they bought their Toorak home a year later, in April 2017.

They temporarily moved to Sydney last year for Bec's appearance on Dancing with the Stars, and to escape the Covid lockdowns in Melbourne.

They have since moved to the Gold Coast.

The Hewitts are now living at a stylish rental house in Burleigh Heads as they wait for their $4.305million dream home to be renovated up the road.

Their French-inspired property in Melbourne went on the market with an asking price of between $15million and $16million.
