Wedding bells! AFL star Warwick Capper announces he is engagement to long-time girlfriend Lisa Arocca

AFL Legend Warwick Capper and his long-time girlfriend Lisa Arocca have announced they're engaged after nearly seven years together.

Sharing the happy news with Woman's Day on Monday, Warwick, 56, joked that his partner 'saw Captain Cucumber and thought she'd died and gone to heaven'.

But former legal receptionist, Lisa, 55, says it was the sporting legend's heart that made her fall head-over-heels rather than his flamboyant personality and looks.

'Warwick's been telling people we've been engaged forever. But he never got down on one knee and I can't remember him ever asking me', Lisa told the publication.

She added: 'He has the biggest heart. I always thought he was pretty hot, but away from his public persona he's a very calm and caring person, which is an attractive quality, plus he's not sleazy!'

The couple began dating back in 2013, after the 80s pin-up boy told her he loved her via a text message early into their relationship.

Warwick shares a son Indiana, 26, with his ex wife Joanne.

The footy legend has tried his hand at modelling, porn, becoming a DJ and politics since his retirement from the AFL in 1990.

First rising to fame as a player for the Sydney Swans and Brisbane Bears, Warwick has since become a prominent pop culture figure.

Retiring from AFL in 1990, he has stayed in the public eye thanks to his highly-publicised and often bizarre career ventures.

He has announced plans to become a male stripper, sold a sex tape in 2009, and even tried to run against Pauline Hansen in the 2009 Queensland State Election.

In 2008, Warwick confirmed he had undergone a plastic surgery makeover which he claimed helped him look 15 years younger.

'It's not a facelift, just a bit of a freshen-up,' Warwick told Woman's Day at the time.

'My body's a temple ... They say I'm vain, but I'm not really. I just like looking at myself!'

He reportedly underwent $10,000 worth of plastic surgery, liposuction and Botox.
