Amy Winehouse will be forever young, her life tragically cut short at the age of 27.

But today, on what would have been her 40th birthday, artificial intelligence (AI) has revealed what she might have looked like.

A supremely talented singer-songwriter, Amy was found dead in her flat in Camden, north London, on July 2011. An inquest into her death later confirmed she died of alcohol poisoning.

The chart-topping, Grammy and BRIT Award-winning artist had risen to become one of the world's biggest music stars thanks to her hit albums, Frank and Back to Black.

She was also known for her distinctive appearance and inimitable style, with an iconic look that included a bouffant beehive hairdo, winged eyeliner and tattoos.

Amy had a well-documented drug habit, which spiralled during her ill-fated marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil, with her regularly using heroin and crack cocaine.

In the months leading up to her death, she had stopped taking drugs, but had fallen into a cycle of abstaining from alcohol then drinking again. She died after binge-drinking vodka.

Her appearance was often affected by her hard-partying lifestyle.

But now, AI tool Midjourney has suggested what she would looked like on her 40th birthday if she had conquered her demons to live for at least another 12 years.

The images it has created show Amy looking unsurprisingly slightly older, but healthier, with clear skin.

Her trademark beehive is more restrained, but her tattoos, makeup and retro look are still there, 1950s jewellery and all.

Amy's death made her a member of the '27 Club', made up of musicians who died at the same young age.

Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones and Janis Joplin all died aged 27.

An inquest into Amy's death heard she had 416mg of alcohol per decilitre in her blood, which would have been enough to make her comatose and depress her respiratory system.

She was found dead fully clothed on her bed, with a laptop nearby and two empty vodka bottles on the floor.

St Pancras coroner Dr Shirley Radcliffe recorded a verdict of misadventure, saying: "She voluntarily consumed alcohol, a deliberate act that took an unexpected turn in that it caused her death."

Amy's GP, Dr Christina Romette, told the hearing she had seen the singer, who she described as "intelligent", the night before she died. She said Amy had been drinking.

She said Amy appeared “calm and somewhat guilty” and was "tipsy" but "able to hold a conversation".

Amy told her she had started drinking again on July 20, three days before her death.

She said she asked Amy if she was going to stop drinking, to which she answered: "I don't know".

On a possible risk of suicide, she added: "She specifically said she did not want to die."

Dr Romete said: “The advice I had given to Amy over a long period of time was verbal and in written form about all the effects alcohol can have on the system, including respiratory depression and death, heart problems, fertility problems and liver problems.”

The inquest also heard a statement from Amy's bodyguard, Andrew Morris, who lived at the singer's flat.

He said he knew she had been drinking and that on the evening of Friday July 22, he had heard her "laughing, listening to music and watching TV" in her room.

He checked her at 10am the next morning and assumed she was asleep, but when she was in the same position at around 2.30pm, he checked her pulse and "couldn't find one".

Paramedics attended and confirmed she was dead.

The coroner, Dr Radcliffe, concluded Amy had died due to "alcohol toxicity", telling the hearing it was "a level of alcohol commonly associated with fatality".

She lamented the loss of "a talented woman at such a young age".
