Kirsty Gallacher says she had a “breakdown” after her divorce, which led to her collapsing on Sky Sports.

The presenter said she struggled to process her high-profile split with rugby ace Paul Sampson and the “difficulties” of putting on a “smiley face” for the camera during that time. The couple who have two sons, married in 2010 and separated in 2015 – the year she competed on Strictly.

Speaking on the MidPoint podcast, Kirsty, 47, said: “At Sky Sports and doing Sky Sports News regularly, I was going through all the pain of what was happening, as a single mum as well as the divorce, and I was doing Strictly.

“I still had to sit and smile and have full-on make-up and go ‘yes, let’s talk about Newcastle United’.

"I made some wrong decisions. My decision making, I don't need to say too much, was not brilliant and I couldn't cope with anything and I actually collapsed on Sky Sports. I didn't know what was going on and I just collapsed. I had a virus and I was also having, I think, a breakdown. I've never really been told that but I know I was because I know what was going on in my head, which was I wanted to run away, really. I was just in pain.

Kirsty Gallacher was a popular figure on Sky Sports among fans

"I’d been asked to do Strictly a couple of years before and I probably should have done it then. I chose the wrong time, but was sort of cajoled into it.”

Asked if she had enjoyed it, she said: “I didn’t – I was a wreck, skinny as a rake, I was running on empty. It was more than exhausting, emotionally and physically.”

Thankfully Kirsty's bounced back from those dark days and was recently seen flaunting her stunning figure whilst wearing a tiny crop top and black leggings in the gym, prompting a slew of praise from admirers.

The brunette also got back into presenting, hosting on GB News before stepping back from the role after discovering a "benign" tumour in her ear canal. Speaking on the tumour, Kirsty said: "During the summer I discovered I have a tumour in the inner canal of my right ear. Thankfully, it's benign and not hugely detrimental to my normal life.

"However, the tumour has caused severe tinnitus which makes it very difficult to sleep. Sadly, my 3am starts at GB News, compounded by sleep deprivation, are exacerbating my symptoms.

And the painful split took its toll on the presenter

"I've taken the difficult decision to step back from my role on the Great British Breakfast while I focus on my health. GB News has been incredibly supportive of me and I look forward to returning to the channel as soon as I can."

And Kirsty appears to be moving on from her divorce, according to recent reports. The Mirror claim that Kirsty's been "cosying" up to Top Gear host Paddy McGuinness following his split from his wife of 11 years, Christine.
