    LOVE THIS CAMERA

    I have taken over 10,000 memorable photos and videos with this camera. After years of usage traveling all over the US and Australia, my first camera got wore out. I am using my backup camera which is the same model and purchased this one as a backup of the backup. The quality of the photos and videos surpassed those that cost 2 or 3 times this point and shoot compact camera. I may purchase a 4th camera to store away since it won't be available in the near future.

    Great point and shoot, offers features for advanced users!

    My wife and I needed a decent camera for summer vacations as well as having on hand for general purpose photos. The images we have printed look great! Auto mode works very well for most situations but the camera has much more functionality...you just have to learn all the features. We have not learned all the modes/options this camera has to offered but am confident photos will come out that much better! Great size point and shoot. Not too fond of the touch screen yet, takes time to get used to. I found this camera as a demo sale and got it for a great price. After using it though, retail price is still justifiable. Overall, for a point and shoot this camera is great. We were on the fence of investing (read: dumping money) into a DSLR but decided this fit the bill.

    For the price, this camera's performance can't be beat.

    Excellent camera. This is my second PowerShot, I replace my SD300 with this camera. I was so pleased with the SD300 over the last several years that I wanted to stay with this line. The features on the 500 HS are great, picture quality for the most part is excellent. I've shot almost 2000 photos so far, some of the photos were taken from moving vehicles and had a difficult time focusing. In general random photos are out of focus, but this is my only complaint about the camera. Compared to the much older SD300 the low light capabilities of this camera are amazing! Other than haveing to drop the MP down to 3.0 inorder to do high frame rate shots my camera far out performs the frames per second advertised. The camera is a power hog, so instead of carring one spare battery I carry two ...

    Great take anywhere point and shoot camera at a great price.

    While the point and shoot cameras I really wanted were the new Sony DSC-RX100 first and then the Canon PowerShot S100 12.1 MP second for their larger sensors, but they are also both much higher priced ($625 & $325). This little ELPH 500HS at less than $150 is both a tremendous bargain and great little camera. It takes great pictures if you avoid it's limitations (smallish sensor with corresponding noise at higher ISO). It has a fast f2 lens and Canon HS processing allows you to take pictures at lower shutter speed (ISO) when it would be too dark for other cameras. It also takes great full 1080p High Def video. Older model but much better than their newer 16.1MP replacements.

    slippery bar w/ S95 performance

    the model looks & feels slippery (almost without a firm hand grip) due to its soap-like thinness. The touch screen is usable but needs some get-used-to at first acquaintance; even though for basic setting and scrolling photos, it is kind of neat. the oblong LCD is very good. the flash is as expected for ELPH models yet the photos come out (from automatic mode) quite good (OFTEN very good) for indoors, and outdoors results come out with near-G12 type of clarity. Shooting including focusing time is quite satisfactory in terms of time b/w shots. The protuding zoom is disappointingly showing black metal, which makes it not so classy against a very pretty silvery front (for silver model) Overall, the "other" features are not worth discussing since this is a ELPH, where even the ...
