When swimming demigod Michael Phelps was 11, coach Bob Bowman sat him down and laid out what he thought about Phelps’ potential in the pool, sending a hoard full of Olympic dreams to the little boy’s way. Ever since then, the mentor-mentee duo set on a voyage to manifest the Olympic dream they saw together. And, today, as the Baltimore Bullet stands atop the pinnacle with 28 Olympic medals, coach Bob Bowman took a moment to highlight this exceptional feat, which in turn, left the Flying Fish emotional and content.
Bob Bowman has a knack for pushing swimmers to the limit. During his career, Phelps said his demanding coach kept him on a tight leash. But, when the hard master shared one stat on Instagram, the Olympic table topper could not hide his exhilaration after seeing the post.

The Baltimore Bullet’s name pops up in the all-time history of the Olympics. No one knows that better than Phelps’ former mentor, Bob Bowman, the International Hall of Famer. Along similar lines, on 8th November, coach Bowman shared a post by the swimming stats, pulling off the curtains from Phelps’ incredible gold winning spree in Men’s 200m individual medley at the 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016 Olympics. Following this, the Flying Fish took to his Instagram handle to express his elation and penned, “A wild yet amazing career @coach_bowman”…thanks”.

The duo of Bowman and Phelps came into existence when the latter was 11 years old. Phelps always credited Bowman for all the chunks of his career. Especially, he has named the “hard times” he used to get from the coach made him go for extra mile always.

On the same note, the 22-year-old French swimmer, Leon Marchand, broke Michael Phelps’ long standing world record in the men’s 400m individual medley in a timeframe of 04:02:50. Phelps also went on to congratulate Leon Marchand when the swimmer broke the last-standing swimming record in the World Championship of 2023.
Interestingly, Marchand swims at Arizona State University and is coached by Bob Bowman, who also mentored the Team USA at the World Swimming Championships. With this, Marchand looks forward to etch his name alongside Michael Phelps in the heavy tome of swimming.
