A road train in Australia has achieved the impressive title of being the longest truck in the world with the same length as 156 London buses. Truck driver John Atkinson is the Guinness World Record holder, successfully accomplishing this remarkable feat in the presence of a local crowd.

This remarkable accomplishment was witnessed by a crowd of locals who gathered to witness the extraordinary event.

John Atkinson achieved this feat by maneuvering a single Mack Titan prime mover, skillfully towing a staggering 112 trailers behind it.

The challenge was to haul this massive convoy for a distance of 150 meters, and Atkinson successfully achieved this, securing the Guinness World Record for the longest truck.

The historic record, spanning a total length of 1,474.3 meters (4,836 feet, 11 inches), was officially established on February 18, 2006, in Clifton, a quaint country town situated in the state of Queensland, Australia.

Atkinson's feat stands as a testament to the ingenuity and skill required to operate such an immense road train, marking a noteworthy achievement in the world of trucking.

The sponsored event that set the record was backed by the Australian steakhouse chain Hog’s Breath Café. Chris Sheedy from Guinness World Records was present when the record was broken in 2006.

He mentioned to 7News at the time: “It’s been broken four times since [1994], but only by Australians. It’s a classically Australian record.”

On that particular day, the record was surpassed by only 30 meters (98 feet, five inches), achieved by a truck in Kalgoorlie, located in the state of Western Australia.

Before the attempt, Atkinson harbored doubts about his ability to accomplish the feat. However, once the challenging endeavor was successfully completed, he exclaimed, “How good’s that truck?”

The event organiser, Mick Boyce, shared the difficulties they faced in maneuvering the trailers to the final position. Speaking to the ABC after the record-breaking moment, he stated,

“We had problems we had to overcome, and we did run out of dollies, and they had to be shifted in from Toowoomba.

"There was a last-minute panic, but the boys came through, and it started to wheel stand, but no, it did the job, so it was 1,474.3 meters long – so yes, it’s big.”
