Performance Summary & Conclusions:

The Corsair XMS XPERT PC3200XL memory is a cool concept with the programmable LED displays on the modules. With SPD info preset to 2-2-2-5 timings, little more is required than simply plugging these modules into the system to gain instant performance. The microcontroller on the memory modules that measure Voltage, Temperature, and Frequency give useful feedback and helpful diagnostic info. I played around with switching these modules around in all the DIMM slots on my motherboard, and noticed that each slot had a slightly different voltage level, all of which were different than what was being reported in the BIOS. Corsair's XPERT series brings memory to a new level that goes beyond just heat spreaders or little flashing LEDs.

Why would someone want an alpha-numeric display on their memory module? It all started when someone got the bright idea of mounting a single LED to indicate when the module had power, then the next step was to have the LED signal memory activity, then add more flashing LEDs, and now we have full display. Who knows what will come next.

The Corsair XPERT series does have a certain "flashiness" factor to it, being the only memory out there with with this kind of technology on it. Targeted as low-latency PC3200 memory, it should not be expected that this memory will overclock to super high FSB speeds, however it does do a decent job overclocking while maintaining good timings.

I'm sure some people will be dreaming about this memory, while others will be confused as to why anyone would want such a thing. It's all about variety, different people like different things. When considering the features this memory has, along with its general performance, it is safe to say that Corsair has produced a quality product combining their low-latency memory with a programmable alpha-numeric display.
