Two-Tone Coffered Ceiling

A sleek two-tone coffered ceiling from @riversidemillworkgroup (Riverside Millwork Group) adds depth to this modern dining room. The white beams pop against the gray ceiling, creating subtle contrast without overwhelming the space.

Paired with the sputnik chandelier, the ceiling draws the eye up, making the room feel taller. Notice the choice of simple decor, which allows the coffered ceiling to steal the spotlight.

Outdoor Coffered Ceiling

Coffered ceilings are not just for interiors; this one from @lk_arch.elements is on a luxurious back patio. Unexpected details like this elevate your outdoor space.

The beautiful tongue-and-groove detail is actually made from high-density resin that reproduces the realistic look and texture of wood, while better suited to withstand the outdoor elements.

Diamond Coffered Ceiling

Traditionally a coffered ceiling consists of a grid pattern of squares, but actually the indented panels can be any shape. This distinctive entryway by @hometrimwork features a diamond centerpiece surrounded by pentagons.

The recessed areas are painted blue, with the diamond a slightly darker shade. The entryway is a great location for an eye-catching coffered ceiling because it sets the tone for the rest of the home.

Nautical Coffered Ceiling

The navy shiplap panels and white beams in this kitchen ceiling by @medomakconstruction give the space a nautical flair. This is a good example of treating the ceiling like a fifth wall instead of an afterthought. The ceiling can be an opportunity to further underscore the design theme by adding detail, texture and color.

LED Coffered Ceiling

This coffered ceiling by @devgroupconstruction features LED uplighting around the crown molding in each grid. The soft lighting adds another layer of interest and creates nice ambiance, especially in a media room.

The LED lights are a beautiful decorative element but not enough to be the sole light source, an issue rectified by recessed lighting in the ceiling.

DIY-Friendly Coffered Ceiling

A coffered ceiling normally calls for expensive tools and advanced carpentry skill, but we designed this project to be DIY-friendly.

The installation features a simple 2×4 framework with miter-free joinery and medium density fiberboard (MDF) for the visible finished material over the framework. MDF is inexpensive, readily available at home centers, and smooth and easy to work with.

Dark and Moody Coffered Ceiling

Paneled walls, built-in cabinetry and coffered ceiling are the type of elegant details that make this bedroom from @seaislandbuilders truly luxurious. But, of course, we have to talk about that color!

Dark blue on the walls and ceiling can make a room feel cramped. But here, thanks to the high sheen and architectural details, light bounces around the room, making the space feel cozy and opulent.

DIY Stained Coffered Ceiling

To create the dark stained beams in this DIY coffered ceiling, @champagne.chaos used 1×6 boards, 1×2 boards and crown molding. Applying the stain before installing the wood made for easier application. The finished look is classic and sophisticated, with a high-end design no one would guess was a DIY project.

Large-Scale Coffered Ceiling

In this living room from @neathousecreative, the ceiling features a large grid pattern with big panels. The look is more streamlined, with fewer lines and visual clutter.

The architectural element brings a layered look to the neutral living room without over-designing the space. Coffered ceilings have a formal vibe, but the woven boho chandelier keeps the overall design more casual.
