Emil Nolde – Frau T. mit Roter Kette - Frau T. with Red Necklace (1930)

Exhibition poster with the work, Frau T. mit Roter Kette - Frau T. with Red Necklace (1930), by the German artist, Emil Nolde ( 1867-1956), from Louisiana's retrospective exhibition with the artist in 2014. The exhibition presented 150 works that covered the artist's entire work—paintings, watercolours, drawings and graphics—and gave an impression of Nolde's artistic development and versatile, wide-ranging life's work.

"She is small, almost ugly, when she is at rest, but when she is in motion she is beautiful." said Emil Nolde about Margarete Turgel, whom he often used as a model. And it is she who is pictured on the work, Frau T. mit roter Kette—and is the publisher of the exhibition poster.

Emil Nolde is one of the most important representatives of German Expressionism, but his close association with Denmark—both biographically and geographically—also gives him a natural place in Danish art history.

Louisiana has featured Nolde several times. In 1967 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the artist's birth, in 1986 and in 2014. Generation after generation shows interest in Emil Nolde's work, which can be experienced, among other things, in the northern German Seebüll, where his house and garden are preserved and open to the public.
