Footy larrikin Warwick Capper is in hospital after undergoing emergency surgery on a burst appendix.

The 56-year-old has described his condition as “life or death” after he misjudged his serious medical emergency as food poisoning.

Speaking from his hospital bed inside Box Hilll Hospital in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, Capper revealed his body “went into shock” as a result of the excruciating pain.

When it finally became clear that his condition was much worse than a case of food poisoning, Capper told The Herald Sun he finally consulted his neighbour, a doctor, for advice.

A few minutes later the former Swans star was being rushed to hospital.

“It was life and death, but I had the best doctors looking after me,” Capper told The Herald Sun.

“(The doctors) said I could have got septicaemia because my appendix burst and the infection could have got into my bloodstream, and it’s very dangerous.

“They said it was touch and go for bit there, but they were positive they could fix me.

“It was excruciating pain. My appendix was perforated, so it was 20 times worse. My body went into shock. It was pretty scary, but I made it through.”

Capper told Channel 9 on Wednesday: “I was just in agony”.

Capper has said he expects to remain in hospital for a spell of 10 days where he will be monitored for any signs of further infection.

Capper said in 2018 he is still living the high life despite remaining relatively out of the headlines in recent years.

He told the Sydney Swans, he is keeping busy with up to 200 public speaking engagements and promotional appearances a year.

The lifetime notorious footy Playboy has been engaged to his long-time girlfriend Lisa Arocca since 2018 — and made the news public earlier this year.
