Impressive Perth hold on against Brisbane

Perth Glory continued their unbeaten start to their A-League campaign with a 2-1 win over Brisbane Roar at niB stadium on Saturday night.

A brilliant combination between Chris Ikonomidis and Andy Keogh saw the latter score an early opener, before the Irish striker forced a two-goal lead by contributing to Connor O'Toole's own goal.

Adam Taggart pulled a goal back from the spot late for Roar in his return to Perth, with Tomislav Mrcela seeing red for the foul, but the away side couldn't nick a point in stoppage time.

The Glory spent the majority of the match on the front foot and would have had a lead in the first 10 minutes if it wasn't for Jamie Young's stunning double save from Keogh.

However Keogh nabbed the lead in the 15th minute, converting from close range after a superb Ikonomidis run and pass.

Perth continued to do most of the attacking, particularly through wing backs Jason Davidson and Ivan Franjic, but it took until the second half for them to double their lead.

Keogh found space in the penalty area to fire in a cross shot with young defender O'Toole putting the ball into his own net while under pressure in the six-yard box.

Brisbane did get back into the game with six minutes to play when Mrcela was adjudged to have fouled and denied Taggart a goalscoring opportunity.

The Glory defender saw red and Taggart dispatched the penalty - setting up a nervous finish for Perth.

But Popovic's side held on to go equal top with Sydney FC mid-way through round three of the A-League.
