Support For Pastor Kelvis Reid

Donation protected
On December 20, 2023, my husband Kelvis Reid, 65, was diagnosed with AL Amyloidosis and Myeloma. AL Amyloidosis is a rare disease that occurs when a protein called amyloid builds up in organs, causing them not to work properly. Myeloma (also called Multiple Myeloma) is a cancer in which abnormal plasma cells make too much of a single type of antibody.

On Christmas Eve, he went into cardiac arrest while we were home wrapping Christmas gifts. (Two weeks before this, he had two heart attacks. One at home and one in the emergency room.)

During this time, he was unconscious, unresponsive, and did not have a pulse. My son and I started performing CPR as we called 911 and awaited healthcare professionals. He was taken to CaroMont Health and later transported to his heart specialist at Atrium Health ICU Cardiac Unit in Charlotte, NC. His condition became critical, and he had to be intubated. Imaging of his heart revealed abnormal heart activity due to Amyloidosis, causing his heart to weaken and his kidneys to fail.

While in the hospital, he went into cardiac arrest again. They performed CPR, he regained consciousness; and he was immediately rushed to surgery and had to be put on an Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) machine, which pumps and oxygenates his blood outside the body, allowing the heart and lungs to rest.

Post-surgery, he was sedated for three days and was in a critical state. His treatment plan includes chemotherapy. He is now working on learning to speak clearly and function normally, as I, our children, family, and friends have remained by his side, continuously praying for healing. He is conscious and on life support as he awaits a heart and kidney transplant.

Many have asked how they may assist my husband and family during this trying time. We’ve created this page to provide people with a way to contribute. Your prayers, cards, and financial support are greatly appreciated. The funds raised through this GoFundMe will directly support Pastor Reid’s journey through AL Amyloidosis and Myeloma (medical bills, organ transplant surgery, post-surgery medication, anti-rejection medication, etc.).

I would also like to ask that you consider sending the nurses 'Thank you' cards as well. We are so THANKFUL and GRATEFUL for their hard work and support. They are true heroes, and words could not express our gratitude for them. God has truly Blessed us with a wonderful group of Medical Professionals! Glory to God for their continuous servitude!

Every contribution, large or small, makes a difference. If you are unable to donate, please consider leaving a message of love, hope, and encouragement.
