Former Vice President Al Gore, Fat Joe and Steve Aoki are joining forces with MTV for an upcoming special to start a dialogue about climate change.
On Wednesday, Aug. 2, MTV will air An Inconvenient Special, a televised town hall to open a conversation with young people about the effects of climate change, hosted by climate change activist Gore in relation to his upcoming documentary An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power. To raise awareness of the issue and special, Viacom Networks is declaring the week of July 31 “An Inconvenient Week” and will air support from all 10 of its networks.
In the special, shot in MTV’s Times Square studio, Gore will be joined by rapper and Miami resident Fat Joe, as well as 17-year-old activist Delaney Reynolds; DJ and fellow Miami-based artist Steve Aoki will act as a correspondent. The event will also be moderated by MTV News Correspondent Gaby Wilson.

The half-hour town hall aims to provide a platform for young people to discuss and amplify their voices on the issue, while bringing attention to changes already happening in Miami. In addition to the in-studio event, the special will include a field piece featuring Fat Joe meeting with Reynolds in Miami to learn about the environmental issues affecting her community and what she is doing to combat them.
“Young people are one of the greatest reasons for hope that we can and will solve the climate crisis, and I am thrilled to participate in An Inconvenient Special to listen to their ideas, hopes, and concerns, as well as learn about some of their amazing work on behalf of the plane,” said Gore in a statement. “Young people today are creative, open-minded, empathetic, and they understand the enormous impact the climate crisis will have on them and their families. They’re ready to make a change and put us on the path to a sustainable future, and I have no doubt in my mind they will be the generation to do it.”
