Two local authors recently presented their book on the SS Dundalk to Coláiste Chú Chulainn students.

The 14th of October marked the anniversary of the sinking of the SS Dundalk.

To mark the event, Marie Agnew and Alan Bogan gifted copies of their book ‘The SS Dundalk – A story of loss, survival and the effect on an Irish town’ to the Coláiste Chú Chulainn library and history department to commemorate this day and ensure the memory lives on.

Both authors worked with the Department of Heritage, RNLI Lifeboats and the Louth County Council to produce the book.

The SS Dundalk was torpedoed by a German submarine in 1918 resulting in the loss of twenty lives. There were also twelve survivors.

Marie explained: “This book, which was put together to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking, helps to bring the story to the next generation and sheds light on the lives of people over a century ago.”
