Hello from Australia! I’ve been here for about two weeks now and I just finished my 12-day tour from Cairns to Port Douglas with Intrepid Travel. It was an awesome trip and I’m looking forward to sharing the pictures here. One of the first places we visited was Whitehaven beach on Whitsunday Island, which I must say is the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen! At low tide, the water makes these incredible sand swirls that make it look like a postcard. It was amazing. We did a day trip here and went snorkeling in the nearby reef which was part of the Great Barrier Reef. I must say after snorkeling in several different parts of the Great Barrier Reef, this part was the least impressive. I’ll share some pictures later on from the day I rented an underwater camera and took some pictures of the reef farther north.
It’s stinger season in this part of Australia (Oct-May) meaning there are Irukandji jellyfish in the water that can literally kill you if they sting you! So scary. As a result, you are required to wear a full-body stinger suit whenever you enter the water and I was more than happy to do this. I also like that the suits protect you from the sun and getting sunburn. Some of the suits even have a hood and gloves so there is essentially no part of your body exposed to the water. I thankfully did not see any jellyfish the multiple times I entered the water over the past couple of weeks.
