San Antonio Zoo says baby Okapi now has a name, is exploring his habitat

Gates is already capturing hearts with his playful energy, the zoo says.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Zoo says the baby Okapi born to first-time parents Ludimi and Epulu now has a name and is already exploring his habitat.

The baby boy, born on September 2, is having fun making his way around his habitat in Africa Live!

Gates is already capturing hearts with his playful energy. He got his name thanks to a generous donor from San Antonio Zoo’s Zoobilation Ball fundraiser.

Check out this video showing Gates with the zoomies, navigating his new surroundings.

The zoo says that, "under the nurturing guidance of his mother, Ludimi, Gates is embarking on a journey of discovery within Africa Live! This immersive habitat provides a natural and enriching environment for Gates to grow and thrive."
