Asafoetida / Heena / Hing Asafoetida or Heeng is a a herb plant that has been known since ages and has a curious and application in different parts of the world. The plant grows in dry cold deserts on sandy soils. The countries like Iran and Afghanistan are the traditional producers and still remain the top producers of hing in the world. The tree as such grows to small height of 2 m and hing is collected from the latex of the tree. It is dried and sold either as powder or as blocks that is used by the people. Its widely in food for cooking or as medicinal use in minor aliments like stomach ache etc. In India it has been used in the food, after food cooking like lentils, curries, vegetable dishes etc. In India, its grown in Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Kashmir to some extent. But India imports most of its demand from Iran. Stevia / Stevia rebaudiana / candyleaf / sweet leaf / sugarleaf Stevia is a plant that is looked as an alternate of sugarcane and is now recently been put to large scale production to be promoted as side effects free sugar. Its a native of South America and has been used by the locals for hundreds of years. The use was well studied and then spread to other countries in 1960's to increase production and have an alternate to sugar.
