The Economic Clock is ticking

From shadow sticks and sundials to the mechanical wonder that was the analogue clock to the pin point accuracy of Nasa's Quasar clock– mankind has mastered the ability to know the time.

But, how good are we at knowing Economic Time? What time is it on the Economic Clock?

“Economic Clock, what’s that?”

Good Question.

An interesting article by Dan Stratful appeared in NZ Investor Magazine in 2010, right at the height of the GFC, that discussed the Economic Clock. The basic premise is that the economy is cyclical and that knowing what the current time is, can help you prepare for opportunity and put strategies into place to circumvent losses.

Here’s what the clock looks like according them :

You'll note that there are 'wheels within wheels'. Each space has a specific action. Each quarter has a general reaction. And the innermost dial measure is called the Emotional Clock.

Regardless of the size or diversity of your investments – home, stocks, real estate, commodities, forex – we are all affected by market forces.

I would like to ask you a question. Using this picture as the face of the clock, what time do you think it is?

I have had a couple of interesting conversations about this with the general consensus being that according to this model the time would be one o'clock. Do you agree?
