Inspiring Words For Business Owners From Nick Vujicic

Nick Vujicic is an international speaker, bringing motivation and hope to others. Despite being born without arms or legs, Nick has built an extraordinary life of purpose and meaning. He speaks to governments around the world, the military, Christian gatherings, and business conferences. He has seen the world and built a beautiful family.

We had the honor of meeting him in person at our IT marketing book camp last spring. (Thanks, Robin Robins!) I wanted to wait to write about this talk and meeting until Thanksgiving because it was an experience I am so grateful for and one I will never forget. In a private meeting before he addressed the crowd of a couple thousand IT company owners, Nick prayed for our family and our business.

After our conversation, his presentation was focused on the grid of happiness. Nick outlined the 6 pieces that business owners need to balance to find their purpose and to find happiness.

The Grid of Happiness

1. Faith

2. Family

3. Friends

4. Fitness

5. Finance

6. Fun

When I reflect on building a business while trying to incorporate a healthy balance of all of these things in our lives, it seems impossible. Nick said that we can’t address each of these parts of our lives every day, but to just keep the Grid of Happiness in mind at all times so that when one piece seems to be lacking, that we reign that back in and make the time to include it in our schedules “It’s hard to fight for the right balance,” Nick told us, “Stick it out, endure, learn and grow through it. Take time to align the head and the heart so then your feet and your hands move.”

We all put limits on ourselves. I cannot imagine the natural limit that not having limbs would put on a young man trying to find a purpose and make a plan for his life. He spoke of the hopelessness and despair he felt as a 10-year-old with a future he could not visualize. Nick encouraged us to push out the limitations we put on ourselves and dream big. Nick had parents who were persistent in planting seeds of potential. I’m grateful for everyone in our lives who has done the same for us. Now is the time to turn around and give that back to those we can mentor, guide and encourage.
