1. Rudraksha – Rudraksha tree was created from a tear of Lord Shiva. The bead is so dear to the Lord that He dons them as on His body as ornaments.

1. Rudraksha – Rudraksha tree was created from a tear of Lord Shiva. The bead is so dear to the Lord that He dons them as on His body as ornaments.

2.Bhasm : The body ultimately turns into ash. The attachment to this world for our family, material things and desires through our body is the reason of our sorrows and also pleasures and these are temporary. Shiva is the all-knowing consciousness who is depicted with ash smeared all over His body showing that the body is just a temporary adornment for the soul and ultimately it will go back to it’s true element which is ash. So instead of being trapped in this material world, we should look beyond it and be detached from it, in order to find the real reason we are here and thus connect to our higher awareness.

3. Bel Patra or Bilva leaves – Bel Patra with three leaflets symbolizes the Trinetra of Lord Shiva, they also symbolize that Lord Shiva are over and above the three Gunas (Sattvic, Rajasic and Tamasic). They also provide cooling effect and as Lord Shiva had consumed poison Halahala samagri which provides a cooling effect are offered to Lord Shiva.

4. Datura fruit – Datura emerged from the chest of Lord Shiva when he drank the poison. Datura is poisonous and bitter when we offer Datura fruit or flower to the Lord, it symbolizes that we are surrendering and getting rid of all our negativity.

5. Gangajal – Gangajal is considered most sacred and auspicious, also when Ganga descended from the heavens to earth to break the fall Lord Shiva held her in his locks and released Her in seven streams on the planet.

6. Bhang – Bhang is intoxicating and offering it to Lord Shiva symbolizes offering all toxicity from our lives on the feet of the Lord. It also symbolizes the trance of devotion one has towards the Lord.

7. Milk – Milk is one of the most Sattvic food items, offering milk to Lord Shiva symbolizes that one is seeking the blessings of purity and auspiciousness.

8. Sandalwood Paste – Sandalwood Paste is considered sacred and auspicious. It has a cooling effect and is offered to Lord Shiva, as He consumed poison Halahala and thus samagri which provides a cooling effect are offered to Him.

9. Tagar, Aparajita, Aak and Datura flowers – Wild flowers which are dear to Lord Shiva and are extensively used in worship of Lord Shiva.

Please note that any Prasad offered to Lord Shiva is not consumed and is offered to a water body. Articles which are not used during Shiva Puja are Bel Leaves, Ark Flower, ketaki flower, tulsi leaves, coconut water, haldi and kumkum
