Valentino Garavani - Red, red, red!
Born in 1932, Valentino Garavani remains a legendary figure of couture. Although Italian, he learned sewing after arriving in France at the age of 17, where he began his career at Guy Laroche. But to create his first fashion house, he returned to Rome in 1959.
As early as 1960, red became his favorite color; it is so famous for it that one would almost forget another of its very famous collections: the "white collection", in 1968, entirely devoted to Jackie Kennedy. The year after, he will sign by a great V the dress of the scandal, that of her marriage with Aristotle Onassis. He then quickly opens a shop in Milan, then in New York, Rome and Tokyo. He is thus one of the first global designers, who also launched his company into perfume in 1983. Ultimate consecration, he is chosen to create the outfits of the Italian athletes at the Olympic Games, before directing his first haute couture collection.
Courteous, always exceptionally elegant man, the man who sublimates the curves and sensuality of women made in 2006 an appearance in his own role in The Devil Wears Prada. Just after, Jacques Chirac chose to give him the Légion d’Honneur. He took a well-deserved retirement in 2008, but was requested by the New York City Ballet a few years later to create some of their costumes: Valentino, passionate of the movement as such had also taken classes in dance and architecture, of which his art both eminently versatile and incredibly constructed has always testified.
