Poster, 'I Am Divine'

The documentary film ‘I Am Divine’ was shown at a sold out screening at the Liverpool Small Cinema on Sunday 2 August 2015, the day after the main Pride event that year and was part of the city’s Pride celebrations. ‘I Am Divine’ is a 2013 American documentary film produced and directed by Jeffrey Schwarz of the Los Angeles-based production company Automat Pictures. The documentary focuses on the American actor, singer and drag performer Harris Glenn Milstead (October 19, 1945 – March 7, 1988). Milstead was better known as his drag queen persona Divine and was a lifelong friend and collaborator of filmmaker John Waters. The documentary used archive footage from Waters’ films and clips of Divine as well as more recent interviews conducted with Divine’s friends and family. The Liverpool Small Cinema is a community screening space based on Victoria Street, in Liverpool city centre, and was launched in March 2015.
