This is the unit history of the 81st Chemical Mortar Battalion in World War II. Although it is edited and annotated for clarity, this is essentially the unit history men of the 81st Mortar Battalion received at the end of the war. The history was edited, annotated, and illustrated by Master Sergeant Walt Cross, U.S. Army Retired. It contains many never or rarely before published photographs of men of the unit. Walt is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy and holds degrees in both history and science. He is a combat veteran of Battery A, 1st Battalion, 7th U.S. Artillery of the 1st Infantry Division and holds many decorations for both service and valor.
