Robbie Williams' wife has spoken out about a phone call which ended the couple's relationship in the singer's new Netflix documentary.

The four-part series, Robbie Williams, starts on November 8 and promises an in-depth look at the Rock DJ's star's life. Robbie, 49, has been married to Ayda Field, 44, since 2010, but she admits he called time on their relationship due to his well-documented problems with addiction.

She explains that the former Take That star called her one morning shortly before his 33rd birthday admitting his team was sending to rehab. With tears in her eyes, mum-of-four, Ayda, says: "It was my entry into addiction," as she remembered the first time she'd seen Robbie taking drugs.

"You wouldn't notice his personality change but all of a sudden he would throw up watching TV," she said while Robbie admitted he thought he would be better off dead when his addiction problems worsened. "There was a sense of... It would be better if I passed away, I didn't care and it would be alright," he said. "For me to change I'd need to be dying, die or stop what you're doing."

Going into more details about the heartbreaking phone call, Ayda said: "I remember it was 2am and I called him and I was like, 'I am just getting on the highway' and he's like, 'Are you driving? Call me when you get home.' "And he is like, 'I can't be in a relationship, I have to get better and I can't be with you. I have to break up with you."

Ayda continued: "And it was like, I understood it because I saw that he was unwell and I remember thinking, 'I just want you to get better.'" She also admitted she was "so crestfallen" adding: "He was my soulmate and then he was gone."

Robbie woke up in rehab on the day of his 33rd birthday, but later got back together with Ayda. The couple, who live in LA, got married in 2010 and have children together, Teddy, 10, Charlie, eight, Coco, four, and Beau, three.

Fans can't wait for Robbie's Netflix documentary to drop, however the Angels star described how hard it was watching the new series, adding he had to sometimes pause or fast forward some footage as he found it too painful. He admitted: “It was like watching a crash you were involved in, but in slo-mo. It was like enduring your mental illness at a very, very slow pace, over a very, very long time. And it’s a niche thing to experience, you know. There aren’t many support groups for it.”
