The emperor guardians

Angel Fitor's Image

With adults measuring half a metre, emperor cichlids are the freshwater equivalent of tuna in Lake Tanganyika.

This pair will work together in the months ahead to raise their many offspring – they can have up to 10,000. So great is the task that it is thought emperor cichlids only breed once in a lifetime.
