Bravehearts visit the Straits

Bravehearts visit the Straits

In November Bravehearts visited the Torres Straits and delivered shows to several schools, which aims to stop child sexual assault in society.  Bravehearts specialist services are instrumental in preventing the sexual assault of Australian children and giving hope and healing to the most vulnerable and precious members of our community – our kids. Bravehearts aims to empower, educate and protect by providing healing and support, engendering child sexual assault prevention and protection strategies; advocating for understanding and promoting increased education and research.

Bravehearts employees and their mascot ‘Ditto’ arrived in the Straits and were keen to get started at the schools on Horn Island and Thursday Island to deliver their message, which the kids and teachers alike engaged with and enjoyed seeing Ditto. They then took off in the police air wing to visit Badu, Boigu, Saibai and Darnley Islands where they presented more shows to the keen students on those islands.

The trip was a very worthwhile one, which was organised by local police who attended the shows with Bravehearts. Bravehearts are a not for profit organisation, so appreciated the generosity of the Gateway Resort and the Federal Motel for allowing them to stay with them. They are looking forward to attending the Straits again in 2015.
