I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Of Here! star Fatima Whitbread competed in numerous javelin events throughout her sporting career but has also opened up about her difficult childhood
Former Olympian Fatima Whitbread is one of the famous faces appearing in the All-Star South Africa series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in a bid to become the ultimate "legend" of the show.
The former Olympic javelin thrower, 62, first appeared on I'm A Celeb back in 2011 where she was famously known for having a cockroach stuck up her nose during one of the brutal Bushtucker Trials.
While we watch the sporting legend take on more creepy challenges, she's also emotionally shared details on her life off-screen.
During last Wednesday's episode, Fatima emotionally opened up about her difficult childhood to fellow campmates Carol Vorderman and Helen Flanagan.
Overcome with emotion Fatima discussed life in a children's home, having spent years in care before being adopted.
Fatima has a son called Ryan who she had with her ex-husband Andrew Norman. At the age of 64, Andrew tragically died from a sudden heart attack in 2007, a year after they got divorced.

When Fatmina was just three months old she was abandoned in a flat by her biological mother. According to reports, a neighbour heard a baby crying but hadn’t seen any adults leaving or entering the building for a few days.
After calling the police, baby Fatima was rescued before spending the next four months in hospital being treated for malnutrition. She was discharged and placed into care.
Fatima then spent 14 years in children's homes before finally being adopted by Margaret Whitbread (pictured left in 1979) who was a Great Britain national javelin coach.

During an episode of I'm A Celeb, Fatima told fellow campmates Carol Vorderman and Helen Flanagan: "In the children’s home when we were kids, we always had an assigned job and we were always in that routine.
"I had two people in my life, Corrie and Auntie Ray. Auntie Ray was an East End girl. I’d be really sad when she went off duty. One day I decided to pick all the daffodils and knock on her door and ask her, 'Will you be my mum?'.
"And she said, 'Fats, I’ve got to be mum to all you kids, so I can’t always be here'."

The two-time Olympic medallist first appeared on I'm A Celeb back in 2011 where she was famously known for having a cockroach stuck up her nose during one of the brutal Bushtucker Trials.
Before this she had a wildly successful sporting career as a javelin thrower, winning a number of medals over the years, including two medals at the Olympic Games during the 80s.
