A Sex and the City reboot is happening. After six culture-shifting seasons on HBO, two movies, and a CW prequel, the acclaimed drama is returning. But this time, it'll be streaming on HBO Max with 10 episodes and will have a new name: And Just Like That.
Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon are each reprising their roles as Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York. Although there's no release date yet, they've all been seen filming at multiple locations across New York City this summer. However, it's difficult not to notice that the famous foursome is now a threesome, since Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones will not be part of the new miniseries.
“Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave,” HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys told TVLine about her absence. “Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life.”
And while it will never be possible to replace the Samantha Jones, we are comforted by the fact that several other beloved SATC cast members will make an appearance on the new edition, including Chris Noth as the one and only Mr. Big. We'll also be introduced to new characters played by Sara Ramirez, Nicole Ari Parker, Sarita Choudhury, and more. But since we're feeling nostalgic, we've taken a look back at a few of Sex and the City's original standout cast members to see what exactly they're doing today.
Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw
While Parker starred in a variety of films throughout the 1980s and '90s, it was her role as the fashionable, shoe-obsessed columnist, Carrie Bradshaw, that made her a household name. As the narrator and protagonist of Sex and the City, she earned two Emmys, four Golden Globes, and three SAGs. Following SATC, her biggest role was in HBO's Divorce. In recent months the 56-year-old has been seen around New York City filming the HBO Max SATC revival, And Just Like That.
She shares kids James, 18, and twins Tabitha and Marion, 12, with her husband Matthew Broderick.
Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones
If there was anyone who stole the spotlight from Carrie it was Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones, the loyal and confident PR exec who never shied away from expressing her sexuality. After six seasons and two SATC films, Cattrall, 64, made it clear in interviews at various times over the years that she put the beloved show behind her. Cattrall's latest project is Fox's Southern Gothic drama, Filthy Rich.
Kristin Davis as Charlotte York
A hopeless romantic, art curator Charlotte was the most traditional in her friend group. Snaps from the set of And Just Like That show the series will offer a glimpse of Charlotte's now tween daughters, Lily and Rose, she shares with husband Harry Goldenblatt. As for Davis, in addition to both SATC movies, she's also appeared in Christmas films for both Hallmark and Netflix, including Holiday in the Wild. Her latest is thriller Deadly Illusions, also streaming on Netflix. She has two children: Gemma, 10, and Wilson, 3.
Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes
Following her portrayal as lawyer Miranda Hobbes—which earned her an Emmy following the last season—Nixon ran for New York governor in 2018. She lost the Democratic seat to the now-disgraced Andrew Cuomo, but still maintains her work as a progressive activist, focusing on reproductive rights, education, and more. She also appeared in Ryan Murphy's Ratched on Netflix in 2020 and starred in multiple theatrical productions in New York City.
She has two sons, Samuel, 24, and Charles, 18, with her ex Danny Mozes. She shares Max, 10, with wife Christine Marinoni.
Chris Noth as John James ‘Mr. Big’ Preston
The Mr. Big was played by Noth throughout the six seasons of SATC and the movies. Noth will reprise his role as the millionaire businessman in the HBO Max reboot, but it's rumored he and Carrie will divorce. Next to SATC, his most well-known role to date is that of Peter Florrick in The Good Wife.
Noth, 66, married his wife, Tara, in 2002. They share sons Orion, 13, and Keats, 1.
John Corbett as Aidan Shaw
After Corbett portrayed Carrie's ex-fiancé Aidan, he's appeared in Netflix's To All the Boys franchise, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and most recently ABC's Rebel. In August, it was revealed that he and his partner of 20 years, actress Bo Derek, married around Christmastime of 2020. Corbett has also confirmed he'll appear on And Just Like That.
Evan Handler as Harry Goldenblatt
Handler will return as Charlotte's divorce lawyer husband, Harry Goldenblatt, in the reboot. He's also appeared in Power, The Breaks, American Crime Story, and Californication.
David Eigenberg as Steve Brady
Eigenberg is returning to And Just Like That to play Miranda's husband, Steve Brady. The 57-year-old actor has played Lieutenant Christopher Herrmann on NBC's Chicago Fire for the past 9 seasons.
Willie Garson as Stanford Blatch
Willie Garson's Sex and the City character, Stanford Blatch, had an exuberant and kind spirit—he was a true friend to Carrie. Only a few weeks after he was spotted filming And Just Like That, Garson died at the age of 57. The news of his death was met with an outpouring support from fans, cast members, and fellow actors. "‘I’m devastated and just overwhelmed with sadness...You were a gift from the gods sweet Willie," Mario Cantone, who played Garson's on-screen husband Anthony Marentino, wrote on Instagram. Cynthia Nixon wrote, "We all loved him and adored working with him. He was endlessly funny on-screen and in real life. He was a source of light, friendship and show business lore."
Mario Cantone as Anthony Marantino
Comedian Mario Cantone is confirmed to play event planner and Charlotte's close friend (and Stanford's husband), Anthony, in And Just Like That. Since SATC, he's continued his stand-up career and appeared on games shows like The $100,000 pyramid and Match Game.
Birdget Moynahan as Natasha
Moynahan's first-ever role was as Big's wife Natasha in seasons 2 and 3 of Sex and the City. It looks like she'll return to the role, as the actress has been spotted shooting scenes in NYC for And Just Like That. She's since starred in Blue Bloods, John Wick, I, Robot, and more.
Jason Lewis as Smith Jerrod
Lewis played Samantha's hunky waiter-turned actor boyfriend, Smith Jared, in seasons 5 and 6. The 50-year-old's been in an array of productions over the years, the most recent being NBC's supernatural drama Midnight, Texas, which ended after two seasons in 2018.
Kyle MacLachlan as Trey Macdougal
McLachlan played Charlotte's seemingly perfect first husband in season 3. The 62-year-old actor has had roles in Twin Peaks, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, The Good Wife, and Portlandia.
Ron Livingston as Jack Berger
Jack Berger, played by Livingston in seasons 5 and 6, goes down in history as one of Carrie's worst boyfriends for breaking up with her via Post-It note. Nowadays you can catch Livingston on A Million Little Things, Search Party, and Loudermilk.
Mikhail Baryshnikov as Aleksandr Petrovsky
Carrie nearly ends up with her Russian lover, artist Aleksandr Petrovsky, in the finale as he whisks her off her feet and they move to Paris. But in the end, it was always Big. Petrovsky was played by Mikhail Baryshnikov, who's an esteemed ballet dancer and choreographer. He's served as the artistic director of the American Ballet Theater, director of the White Oak Dance Project, and founded the Baryshnikov Arts Center in 2005. He was awarded with Kennedy Center Honors and the National Medal of Arts, amongst many other accolades.
Candice Bergen as Enid Frick
The iconic Emmy-winning actress and model—aka Murphy Brown—played Carrie's Vogue editor, Enid, in just three episodes. Her most recent roles include films Let Them Talk and Book Club.
James Remar as Richard Wright
Remar portrayed Samantha's wealthy, playboy boyfriend, Richard Wright, during season 4 of Sex and the City. He's since starred in Black Lightning, Animal Kingdom, NCIS: Los Angeles, The Legend of Korra, and more.
Lynn Cohen as Magda
Cohen, who died in 2020 at the age of 86, played Miranda's beloved housekeeper and nanny beginning in season 3. She had 116 IMDB credits to her name including The Hunger Games, Law & Order, Munich, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
