• Nicole Kidman, 54, opened up about her marriage to Keith Urban, 54, in a new interview.
  • The actress compared her relationship with Urban to her upcoming role as Lucille Ball in Becoming the Ricardos.
  • Kidman said she could "relate to" the Ball's onscreen marriage to Desi Arnaz because they are "deeply protective" of each other.

It's no secret that Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are deeply in love. The longtime couple, who tied the knot 15 years ago, recently stepped out for an appearance at the Australian premiere of Becoming the Ricardos, and they seriously were swooning over each other.

Kidman, who plays none other than Lucille Ball in the much-anticipated film, opened up to The Hollywood Reporter in a brand new interview about the pressures of playing such an icon—as well as the parallels she feels between her life and Ball's.

In particular, Kidman said she saw herself in Ball's onscreen (and offscreen) marriage to Desi Arnaz. "There were so many things when I first read the script that I related to," said the actress, who shares four children with Urban. "A sense of trying to make a marriage work, juggling a desire to have children, of, 'I want to have a career, but I want to have the home.'"

Well, it appears that Kidman has achieved both. The Emmy-winning actress has starred in dozens of popular films since she began her acting career around age 16. And she did so while raising a family and maintaining a loving relationship with Urban.

Kidman says their loving marriage comes down to their ability to have each other's backs no matter what—a quality that reminded her of Ball's relationship with Arnaz in I Love Lucy. "The idea of being a couple who are deeply protective of each other ... I relate to it and I understand it," the actress told THR of Ball's onscreen romance.

Kidman first fell in love with Urban after listening to a speech he gave at an event in Australia in 2005. One year later, they were married. The actress said their marriage is all about compromise, which helps them work together.

"We're always working through stuff, but it's very much love-based, so there's an enormous amount of give and take. I want him to have the best life he can have, and he responds the same way," she told Harper's BAZAAR. "We really love parenting together."

Are these two not the sweetest? You can catch Kidman starring as Lucille Ball in Becoming the Ricardos, which premieres on Amazon Prime on December 21.
