Bathing Box 15, Brighton sold before auction.
One of Brighton’s iconic beach boxes has sold for a record price in just a few days.
The Brighton buyer paid $340,000 for Bathing Box 15, which had been in the same family for more than 50 years, topping the guide of $300,000-$330,000.
It nudged out the previous record of $337,000 for Bathing Box 76B, which was newly built at the time it sold in April last year.

The beach box has been well maintained.
Marshall White Bayside agent Ben Veith said it sold “extremely fast”.
“There was a lot of interest on it, but this particular buyer wanted it,” he said.
The beach box was scheduled to go to auction on November 16 — but the buyer did not want to wait until then.
Mr Veith said it had been cherished by one family for more than 50 years.
“It was passed down to the current vendor from her aunty,” he said.

The beach boxes are a popular tourist attraction.
He said the vendor had been repainting the blue box with white seagulls every year, and repositioned the birds so that not every photo with it in the background was the same.
Mr Veith said the Brighton beach boxes were highly sought-after with Bayside residents because of their history and prestige.
“The council are building the last one at the moment, it will be up for sale in December,” he said.

Last year the Heritage Council decided to include the 90-plus brightly coloured boxes on the Victorian Heritage Register, deeming them of cultural significance to the state.
Other recent sales include Bathing Box 89 for $332,500 in March and Bathing Box 34 for $303,000 in May.
Mr Veith said normally about one or two boxes sold each year.
However, these sale prices pale in comparison to a Portsea boat shed that sold for almost $1 million last year.
